Object markers are typically used to mark obstacles within a roadway. These obstructions can range from utility poles to guard rails, underpass piers to abutments and more. Without any object markers in the work site, oncoming traffic would be unaware of obstacles they maybe approaching. Object markers reduce risks and potential hazards.
Types of Object Markers
Below is a list of object markers you can get on the market:
- Standard Object Marker Type 1: A marker that consists of nine yellow retroreflectors with a diameter of at least 75mm each which mounts symmetrically on a yellow or black diamond panel.
- Standard Object Market Type 2: A marker that consists of three yellow retroreflectors with a diameter of at least 75mm that is stacked either horizontally or vertically following a white panel.
- Standard Object Marker Type 3: A marker with strips that are 300mm by 900mm, which consists of a vertical rectangle that has black and retroreflective yellow stripes that slant downwards.
How are Object Markers used?
Object markers are used to mark objects in the roadway, markers to mark objects next to the roadway, and markers to indicate the end of roadways. The first scenario would require either a Type 1 marker or a Type 3 marker while being accompanied by pavement markings that warn road users of an obstruction that is up front.
The second scenario uses Type 2 or Type 3 markers to be placed parallel to the inner side of the obstacle’s edge. Lastly, the marker to mark the end of roadways would require a marker with 9 red retroflectors with at least 75mm of diameter that mounts on a red or black diamond panel.
