How are Type III Barricades and 3M Reflective Sheeting used?
There are currently three types of reflective panels: Type I, Type II, and Type III barricades. The third option is typically utilized for road closings due to their increased level of visibility and size. These barricades can be positioned across roadways to indicate detours and be used in other traffic control applications. For example, a project may require a road to be temporarily closed while providing access for local traffic. In this case, Type III barricades won’t extend completely across the road. Signs will be placed along the barricades to inform drivers of the obstructions ahead.
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has reported that the rate of traffic fatalities is significantly higher at night than during the day. Accidents happen because drivers lack the visual cues that they are used to seeing during daylight hours. 3M reflective sheets help increase the brightness of existing road signs and barricades at night.
